ESMAP has contributed significantly to the development of knowledge tools to guide decision-making about climate change mitigation and low carbon development. Such modeling and planning tools help generate consensus on data and assumptions among a wide range of stakeholders, and the outputs provide a valuable evidence base upon which to define priorities and design policy responses. Demand from countries for these services is significant and growing, and ESMAP already has experience helping to implement these tools in 18 countries.
To enable wider dissemination of ESMAP tools and encourage collaboration with other tools providers, ESMAP is collaborating with World Bank colleagues working on climate change to develop the Climate-Smart Planning Platform, a multi-stakeholder initiative to gather and share information on the application of climate-resilient and low-carbon development tools. The Climate-Smart Planning Platform includes a powerful database of tools and associated datasets, and will include a wiki space originally developed by ESMAP to facilitate collaboration.
