Low Carbon Development
A growing number of developing countries are seeking to adopt low carbon development pathways to achieve green growth, reduce their dependency on fossil fuels, and contribute to global efforts on climate change mitigation.
Since 2007 ESMAP has provided support World Bank engagement with 14 countries on low carbon developing, ranging from long-term economy-wide analytical work to the assessment of implementation options for emissions abatement in specific sectors.
This work has generated a wealth of knowledge, experience and tools which can help inform low carbon development planning in other countries, or regions within countries.
Country Studies
The outputs from six country studies are available below – including full reports and summary brochures. Additional countries will be added once the outputs become available.
Guidance
ESMAP will soon publish a major report summarizing the lessons learned from the seven initial low carbon studies. In addition there are a series of briefing notes covering most of the individual country studies.
Tools
As a result of the support provided for low carbon studies, ESMAP has developed a number of low carbon planning tools. These are provided free of charge for the benefit of future or ongoing low carbon studies. A presentation is available outlining the current status of this work, and further information is available on each of the tools via the links below.
Tool for cities to assess their energy efficiency.
Bottom-up, Excel-based scenario building model.
Excel-based tool for the creation of marginal abatement cost (MAC) curves.
