ESMAP's New Manager Takes Office
ESMAP's new Manager, Rohit Khanna took office this month. He brings to this position an in-depth understanding of energy issues and challenges within the sector and the program. Prior to this assignment, he was program coordinator for the multi-donor Clean Technology Fund (CTF) at the World Bank, working in partnership with the regional development banks and providing support to operations staff on CTF country programming and portfolio development. "He is a top performer and is best placed to lead the ESMAP team, to bridge and balance energy access, climate change mitigation and adaptation and energy security agendas," says Jamal Saghir, Director of Energy, Water and Transport Department of the World Bank.
ESMAP Launches its New Web Site
The Energy Sector Management Assistance Program-ESMAP is pleased to announce the launch of its new Web site: http://www.esmap.org. The site provides access to information on ESMAP’s programs, activities, knowledge products and achievements. This new Web site will assist ESMAP clients – low- and middle-income countries – to increase know-how and institutional capacity in order to achieve environmentally sustainable energy solutions for poverty reduction and economic growth.

A New Report Offers Energy Options To Policymakers On How To Manage An Electricity Shortfall
A new publication, Managing an Electricity Shortfall: A Guide for Policy-makers, offers a menu of options based on a study of electricity shortfalls in a number of Central American countries, namely Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The report is accompanied by a brochure that summarizes the lessons of this study for electricity sector policy-makers in small to medium-sized states. Learn more.

Lighting Africa: Winners Picked as Best Off-grid Lighting Products in Sub-Saharan Africa
ESMAP and the World Bank Group’s Lighting Africa Program selected five innovative products as the best able to deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective lighting to millions of people in Africa who currently rely on fuel-based lamps or other low-quality products.
