ESMAP’s 2011 Knowledge Exchange Forum: a Snapshot of the Day’s Events
ESMAP's Knowledge Exchange Forum was held in Washington in March 17. About 80 energy experts, partners and stakeholders discussed ESMAP’s efforts to support and promote energy access, energy efficiency, renewable energy, energy security and low carbon development options in both emerging and developing economies. A documentary produced for the event captures ESMAP's support for client governments' efforts to provide clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to their citizens.
Forum Accelerates Action To Reduce Exposure To Indoor Air Pollution
An ESMAP funded toolkit on improved cookstoves was presented by the World Bank at a global forum in Lima, Peru to help reduce indoor air pollution in Central America. The cookstoves toolkit provides a methodology that incorporates technical, socio-cultural and financial parameters for successful improved cookstoves programs. Learn more.
Tunnels are Vital for Extending Electricity to Nepalese
Considering the importance of tunnels in the development of infrastructure - energy, water and transport, ESMAP funded a workshop for Nepalese engineers, contractors and manufacturers to discuss approaches to using tunnels for transmitting electricity to Nepal’s residents. The discussion led to the formation of a national chapter - Nepalese Tunneling Association. This Association will promote the sustainable use of tunneling technology in Nepal. Learn more.
ESMAP’s Energy Efficiency Service Procurement Work Highlighted at World Bank Procurement Staff Training
As a follow-up to its analytical report and guidance note on public procurement of energy efficiency services, the World Bank’s Procurement Unit presented ESMAP’s work on using energy savings performance contracts to its procurement staff. These concepts will be incorporated into World Bank funded investment operations leading to reduced energy consumption in public facilities. Learn more.
New Energy Efficiency Best Practice In Cities: Germany, Armenia & Brazil
EECI has expanded its collection of energy efficiency best practice from cities around the world. It has just added three new case studies about energy efficient buildings in Munster, Germany; water and energy efficiency in Yerevan, Armenia; and water conservation in Campinas, Brazil. Learn more.
