ESMAP-Africa Energy Learning Series | Redesigning Results-Based Financing to Increase Longevity of Access and Crowd in Capital | May 21 | 9:00-10:30 AM EDT
Expanding and sustaining electricity access for the hardest to reach — the lowest-income population — is central to Mission 300. While demand for electricity services is widespread, affordability constraints often limit the supply and uptake of solutions in rural and low-income contexts. Closing this gap requires subsidized delivery models that are not only affordable for users, but also viable and scalable over the long term.
This session will explore how distributed renewable energy (DRE) models can be designed and scaled in low-affordability contexts, with a focus on what investors need to see to support long-term service delivery. It will examine key considerations around affordability, subsidy design, financing structures, and delivery models. The event will also examine how these choices affect viability, scalability, and continuity of service at the last mile. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of the tradeoffs and practical design decisions shaping efforts to deliver electricity access that lasts. ![]() ![]() |
