Renewable Energy Resource Mapping in Tanzania

Summary

To accelerate the expansion of renewable energy the Government of Tanzania has requested the support of the World Bank and ESMAP’s Renewable Energy Resource Mapping Initiative to help improve the country’s knowledge and awareness of small hydro, solar, wind energy resources. All three components have generated initial outputs, which can be accessed below.

 

Due to the proximity and relative size of Burundi and Rwanda to Tanzania, The World Bank has been able to obtain preliminary and unvalidated solar and wind mapping outputs for both countries in the form of GIS layers (available for download from the initiative homepage). Due to budgetary restrictions no further work is being proposed on these two countries at present.
