This webinar focused on an innovative framework that contributes to improving renewable energy project implementation, facilitating the transition from traditional thermal generation to cleaner and more reliable systems that can meet a large share of energy needs. 

Wind, solar and other renewable sources can only be a significant part of the solution to providing energy access to all by 2030 while eliminating carbon emissions if we find ways to store this energy. Solar and other so-called “variable renewable energy” is clean but cannot always meet energy demand at the time it is needed. The webinar outlined the new report Unlocking the Energy Transition: Guidelines for Solar Plus Storage Projects and the accompanying Power Purchasing Framework.

The proposed four-phase framework developed by the World Bank’s ESMAP program, IFC, and MIGA helps countries implement solar plus storage projects as integral components of their sustainable renewable energy programs by unlocking private capital and reducing dependence on public finances.
