A Show Case of Albania’s Climate Vulnerability Assessment at World Bank’s Sustainable Development Network Forum
February 10 2010
A show case of Albania’s climate vulnerability assessment was presented at the Sustainable Development Network Forum on January 20, 2010 by ESMAP and the World Bank’s Country Manager for Albania. The session, "Regional Approaches to Climate Adaptation in Responding to Water and Energy Challenges", presented regional case studies from Europe and Central Asia (Albania), South Asia (Ganges), and Africa (Niger) and approaches to climate adaptation that support client countries pursue development challenges in water and energy.   A Web-based toolkit is being developed as part of the Albania vulnerability assessment.  Albania’s case study  is presently being used in a similar assessment in Uzbekistan.

Many countries are increasingly vulnerable to destructive weather events. In response to these challenges, ESMAP’s  Energy Assessments and Strategy Program has developed a framework to support adaptation of energy infrastructure vulnerable to climate change. A recently released report showcases a pilot vulnerability, risk, and adaptation assessment undertaken for Albania’s energy sector  to raise awareness and initiate dialogue on energy sector adaptation.
