PRESENTATIONS

  • Planning and Prospects of Renewable Power in Africa by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)

  • Africa Hydrogen Transition: Where to Act? Who to First Engage? By the Africa Green Hydrogen Alliance (AGHA)

Learn how green hydrogen can play a key role in Africa’s energy transition by helping to unlock Africa’s zero-carbon industrial opportunity.

During this webinar, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) shared an overview of the African Continental Power Systems Master Plan (CMP), which included planning scenarios for green hydrogen. IRENA also explained how their System Planning Test (SPLAT)-MESSAGE framework, a tool used for power system capacity expansion, has been used as the official planning instrument for the CMP. Finally, IRENA shared the key findings of their recent “Planning and prospects for renewable power: North Africa” report.

Presenters delved into a set of long-term power expansion scenarios for Africa, including hydrogen perspectives, using Namibia as a case study.

And last, the African Green Hydrogen Alliance highlighted their initiatives to propel green hydrogen production and highlight its critical role in Africa's energy transition.
