Hydropower Works Study Tour to Norway

The ESMAP hydropower study tour to Norway (September 7–12, 2026) is designed as a knowledge exchange platform to demonstrate that hydropower works, drawing on Norway's decades-long hydropower journey, its role in regional energy integration, and the broader perspectives of client countries and the World Bank Group on current challenges and opportunities in the sector.

Hydropower is a key technology for electricity access and supply security, providing low-carbon, dispatchable electricity and critical energy services that complement growing shares of variable renewables. Through ESMAP, the World Bank Group supports clients in assessing and optimizing their hydropower portfolios, spanning existing assets, greenfield potential, pumped storage, and flexible operations, through technical and economic analysis that clarifies hydropower's role in future power systems, informs investment pathways, and tailors development approaches to emerging needs, including through public-private partnerships.
